Remember this? September 2001

September 22nd 2001. Reading v Wycombe. This is just one of a few occasions when, in the heat of the moment, it is difficult to see who exactly got on the end of that cross!

We've all done it before and had to ask the guy next to us who scored. This time however there was nobody else to ask. Even a phone call to the press gathered out on the gantry in the Upper West went unanswered.

Closely scrutinising the congratulatory huddle of players led to the decision that it must have been Nicky Forster and so the announcement was made - followed immediately by ironic cheers and a confused looking Adie Williams looking up at us in the PA room pointing at himself!

The stadium bookies weren't too happy as punters, including Adie's dad, tried to claim their winnings. The bookies stood by the announcement, until club officials finally asked us to make an announcement and name the real goalscorer that afternoon.

We now have ouu own TV with Tivo/Sky+ system and instant replays making it much easier to call in future. Adie shrugged it off and so did we. We still have the odd argument over who scored though!
