Reading left Villa Park just like every other away ground this season, still searching for that increasingly elusive first away win.

Villa's dominance in the air from set-pieces proved the difference, with the Reading defence unable to cope with the accuracy of Ashley Young's crosses. John Carew glanced in an inswinging free-kick midway through the first half before Martin Lauren rose to head home a corner just after the break. Carew added his second late on before James Harper slotted a consolation.
