Reading 0-2 Portsmouth

Reading were left to rue Ibrahima Sonko's sending off after just three minutes. Although the post denied Portsmouth a goal from the penalty spot, the south coast side ran out 2-0 winners.

After the penalty miss, Bobby Convey had the best chance of the game to put 10-men Royals ahead but saw his effort pass agonisingly wide of the post. Pompey took the lead on nine minutes following an error from Marcus Hahnemann which presented Sol Campbell with a simple slot home, although there was a question as to whether Campbell was offside.

Reading tried as hard as they could with a man down but once John Utaka rounded Hahnemann in the 66th minute for the second goal, the game was over for Reading.
