Reading 0-1 River Plate

Reading's first game in the Peace Cup ended in defeat to South American giants River Plate. The Argies looked much the stronger team particularly in the first half and with their season only ending three weeks ago it showed.

Despite this, the boys in the blue and white hoops rallied in the second half and put in a much better performance. Kevin Doyle had the ball in the net for an equaliser only to have it ruled out for offside after some silky showboating from Dave Kitson had given him the chance.

So how did the media see this game? Well apart from most of Korea seemingly Royals fans, it was the usual reporting over here. Reading fall short in Peace Cup opener was the headline in the Times, while the Daily Mail ran the same story with the headline Reading suffer Cup defeat. They did however include a couple of quality action photos. Tabloid coverage seemed sparce, but the Daily Mirror ran with A River Of Tears For Cop and focussed on the debut of new signing Kalifa Cisse.

The best match reports were from the usual suspects, Andy West and the team at RFC and Sky Sports.
